VAT rates in Poland (2026)

23%standard
8%reduced
5%reduced

The standard rate of 23% applies to most goods and services. Reduced rates (8%, 5%) apply only to specific goods and services defined by law. Locally, the tax is called Podatek od towarów i usług (VAT / PTU). Registration / small-business threshold: PLN 240,000 annual sales (from 2026).

Good to know

  • KSeF (National e-Invoicing System) is mandatory: since 1 February 2026 for the largest taxpayers and since 1 April 2026 for all other VAT payers. Micro-businesses with very low monthly invoice volumes have a transition period until the end of 2026.
  • Invoices issued in KSeF get a KSeF number; invoices to consumers can still be issued outside KSeF.

How it’s calculated

VAT is charged as a percentage of the net (pre-tax) price. To add it, multiply the net amount by the rate; to find the net amount inside a tax-inclusive price, divide the gross amount by 1 plus the rate.

A common mistake is to remove VAT by subtracting the rate from the gross price (e.g. 119 − 19% = 96.39). That is wrong — the correct net amount is 119 ÷ 1.19 = 100.

  • Gross = Net × (1 + rate ÷ 100)
  • VAT = Net × rate ÷ 100
  • Net = Gross ÷ (1 + rate ÷ 100)
